Six of the Best – Off Grid

The world has seemed like it’s ending for quite a while now, so that probably means it’s not going to happen anytime soon. With that being said, the Doomsday Clock shows, ‘A moment of historic danger: it’s 90 seconds to midnight’, we’re pretty sure no one knows what that means but it sounds scary, doesn’t it?

With that in mind, we’re recommending six of the best things you might need if a nuclear fallout/zombie apocalypse/alien invasion did happen. Basically, we’ve been watching too much of that show Doomsday Preppers, and it got us thinking about the stuff we’d like to have to go off the grid in style when society collapses…

In the process of compiling this list, we’ve realised that Outsiders Store seem to have an abundance of apocalypse-ready gear, so if you want our advice, head to their warehouse in the event of a global catastrophe.

Pa’lante Ultralight Pack

Arguably the most important item in an apocalypse is the one that you keep other items in. This 26-litre backpack from Palante looks like it’ll fit the job, just imagine how many tinned foodstuffs you can stash in this. It also has an easy-access pocket at the base which will be good to keep a map in when all the 4G goes off and you can’t navigate anywhere without Google Maps.

Universal Works x master-piece Stanedge Jacket + Universal Works Duke Pant

Alright we’ve cheated quite massively here, but we’re counting them both as one item because they’d just look so good together. When you’re off the grid, you don’t want to be spotted, so camo is the way to go. Although if you live anywhere other than the jungle this probably makes you far easier to spot. This camo pattern from Universal Works is called Swedish Camo and it’s definitely on the nicer end of the camouflage pattern spectrum

Nike ACG Torre Mid Boot

If you’re going off the grid, you better be prepared for all conditions, that’s why we thought it was a no-brainer to include a Nike All Conditions Gear shoe in this list. The Torre mid-boot is a slice of ACG cult history, the original boot came out in 1995 and people have been demanding a re-release ever since, and now it’s here.

Topo Designs Fleece Cap

Your headwear is obviously important in an apocalypse, hardly going to be able to go to the barbers are you? This hat from Topo Designs is made from a very cosy looking fleece material and has the benefit that a bit can be folded down to cover your greasy mop should it get excessively long.

Nanga Aurora Light 350DX Long Sleeping Bag

When you’re an apocalyptic nomad your sleeping bag pretty much becomes your house, it’s the only place you can crawl inside and feel fully relaxed, therefore it’s probably a good idea to get one that you’re proud of. It only seems logical to pick something made by Nanga as they began their journey into the outdoor gear world by making quality sleeping bags. This one is good because it’s filled with 760FP duck down and made from their waterproof Aurora Light material.

Oakley Sub Zero N Sunglasses

If society collapses, everyone is going to be scared of each other, sometimes it feels like they already are. Instead of trying to look friendly and make mates in an apocalyptic scenario, we reckon you should make yourself look as scary as possible – these Oakley shades are sure to do that.
