Six of the Best – Striped Garb

People typically associate stripes with summer, but here at Proper, we question the norm, we don’t listen to the rules and we certainly don’t just base an entire article around the first nice piece of clothing we see that day.

So for this segment of ‘Six of the Best’ we’re taking a look at the best striped clothing money can buy – vertical, horizontal, you name it we’ve got it – apart from diagonal, we don’t have that.

Beams Plus Long Sleeve Jacquard Stripe Pocket T-Shirt

Who else would there be to start this list off other than Beams Plus. We weren’t quite aware quite the extent of how much Beams like making striped clothes prior to formulating this list. Turns out it’s a lot, probably more than any brand ever. This long sleeve happens to be the pick of the bunch though and that says a lot, considering the bunch is 13,763 items large.

Stan Ray Overdyed Zip Shirt

If you thought this list was going to be all about garish colourful stripes, you’re sorely mistaken. Here’s a classy but robust zip shirt, featuring very subtle, tonal stripes, running vertically up the shirt, paired with a nice chunky YKK zip. All in all a good example of Stan Ray doing what they do best.

Stussy Tonal Stripe Sweater

This sweater reminds us of Spaghetti Western films, not because something similar would be worn in them, just because it’s very desert-y looking. Another notable point about this is that Stussy have made the sweater from linen, so it’s probably going to feel very pleasant on your skin, not itchy like some knits are notorious for.

Armor-Lux 59644 Fine Stripe T-Shirt

Firstly, not sure why Armor-Lux have decided to put all those numbers in the name of a T-shirt. Secondly, blue stripes are the best stripes. Potentially because sailors traditionally wear striped gear, and their workplace is the sea, which is blue.

Polo Ralph Lauren Stripe Rugby Shirt

This shirt is on the list not in a rugby sort of way, but more in a 1970s Yosemite big wall climber sort of way, because let’s be honest climbing is way cooler than rugby. The reason climbers like Yvon Chouinard favoured rugby shirts was because the thick collar could withstand the constant friction of rope draped over their necks. Feel free to bore your mates with that one later.

Universal Works Long Sleeve Pocket Tee

If you’re all about showing how relaxed and chilled out you are, what better way is there of doing it than wearing a shirt that will have people questioning whether you forgot to change out of your pyjamas. This striped garment from Universal Works is made from a textured jersey knit with dyed thread. Fancy.
