It’s not everyday we have a lady writing an article for us but since it’s that time of year and this bird really knows what she’s talking about, we thought we’d ask her to do us men a favour and find out what women really want to get in their stockings on Jesus’ birthday. CLUE – it’s not a new iron.

You don’t need to be an avid Proper follower to be aware of our appreciation of 6876. With that and the recent inclement weather in mind, we’re cheered to see the arrival of the 6876 Brecon, a modernist parka style jacket in a couple of ace fabrics.

On our recent jaunt to London, a couple of us had the pleasure of spending time with 6876’s Kenneth MacKenzie and Garbstore’s Ian Paley. Both were exceptional hosts, and better still, both make things we really, really like.

With that in mind, it was pretty ace to hear them both tell us about the collaboration they had planned.

The collaboration between London store The Hideout and Americana/workwear brand Dickies seeks to take the classic ethos of Dickies and mould it into something with a more contemporary angle, all the while keeping the essence of Dickies. It’s a great selection of basics and is brilliantly priced. Little or no branding too, for those of you who like to go about your business without showing off who makes your clothes.

The third issue of the excellent Rig Out Magazine features some of the greatest garments money can buy, and a genuine record breaker. In these times of cyber show offs and every man and his goldfish blogging about clothing, it’s refreshing to see people doing things the old fashioned way for all the right reasons. It’s far from a gimmick or a point of difference thing though. The Rig Out 3 is put together by clued up people who appreciate real things of integrity and substance and that shines through.

It’s that time of the year isn’t it. You’re opening the cupboards and hoping the moths haven’t savaged your woolly jumpers (vacuum pack them, you div), you’re wondering whether it’s quite cold enough for big jackets. But why have that daft dilemma when you can get one of these. They’re good quality, thick and do the job of a jumper and a jacket.

Continuing on our ‘Shop Ten’ theme whereby the world’s coolest shops compile us a top ten of whatever the hell they like, Garbstore head honcho Ian Paley has done us a fantastic list full of amazing curios and cultured bits and bobs that we think nicely sums up just how cool the man and his fantastic shop and label are..

Have you ever wondered what you’d save if your house was on fire? Obviously family and pets would come first (unless your family are divs and your pets stink), but after that, what would you save? Gerry very kindly opened a window to his mind and has taken a few pictures in order to share his top ten.

We thought we’d kick start this new ‘shop ten’ feature where the coolest shops in the world send us a list of ten random things that are currently blowing their trumpet by starting with our Munich mates at Harvest.

Around ten years ago I was working in a call centre outside Manchester. Myself and some colleagues returned from lunch and were travelling by elevator. An older guy called Tom from Sales jumped in just as the doors were closing.

He began making small talk with someone as he stood directly in front of me. I was transfixed, unable to break my stare from his face.

As a bit of a sucker for a bit of vintage Americana, I’ve been buying parkas and jackets from the other side of the water for quite a few years now. I thought I’d had every conceivable combination so far, from vintage Izod Lacoste of all shapes and sizes, to Woolrich 65/35 Mountain Parkas and the better known 60/40 Parkas from Sierra Designs and many others.

We got a very interesting email from a graduate of St Martins called Rohan Chhabra this week (I feel like Jimmy Saville reading this out) asking if we were interested in seeing his coat, after looking at the pictures we thought we’d mis-read it and he’d actually said goat…

Interviews

Now and again we like to look backwards and pluck things from our archive. Some stuff is timeless isn’t it? Take John Shuttleworth for example. He’s seemingly never been a young man but equally he’s not aged has he? With that in mind we’ve decided to publish an interview we did with the great man a full seven and a half years ago.
